Jack the ripper is one of the most
notorious killers in London during
the year 1888. He is a savage killer
of prostitutes who is pretty well-
known simply because of his
“sadistic” methods of killing. He
slashes his victim’s throat, slicing
their abdomens open, taking away
their uterus, and sometimes taking
some of his victim’s teeth away.
His case was never solved and thus,
his identity remains as one of the
world’s greatest mysteries. But…
would you believe if this
mysterious, psychopathic murderer
is linked to our National Hero, Dr.
Jose Rizal?
There are “at least” ten proofs
which verify that Jose Rizal is Jack
the Ripper:
Jose Rizal is in London during Jack
the Ripper killings from August to
November 1888.
1.August 1888, Rizal was in British
Museum of London copying a book
entitled, “The Sucesos De Las Islas
Filipinas” as his gift to the Filipinos.
He stays all day in the library,
copying the book by hand, since
there is no photocopying machine
yet during that time. The brutal
murders of five prostitutes
occurred from August 31-
Novemeber 9, 1888. At December
13, Rizal left London. On the other
hand, Jack the Ripper makes his
murders at around 2AM to 4AM.
Although Rizal is working all day in
the library, who knows what Rizal is
up to during night?
Jack the Ripper is said to be skilled
in surgical knife and Rizal happens
to be a doctor.
2. Rizal enrolled in medicine at the
University of Santo Tomas in 1878.
On June 21, 1884, at the age of 23,
he was conferred the degree of
Licentiate in Medicine. While on the
other hand, Jack the Ripper’s victim
are brutalized with strategic cuts on
the neck and incisions that took out
the uterus from the abdomen,
which proves that Jack the Ripper is
skilled in surgery. The killings link to
Rizal because he was a doctor.
Skilled with surgical knife, he even
performed the medical operation
on his mother’s eye.
3.The museum where Rizal stayed
is only 53 minutes walk from where
the killings occurred, and would
take only 15 minutes by ride.
Rizal stayed in British Museum in
Great Russell street while
Whitechapel, a district wherein the
Jack the Ripper killings has
occurred, is only at the east end of
London. Whitechapel is 2.7 miles
away from British Museum and
requires 53 minutes walk. Although
Rizal is busy copying a book, it
wouldn’t bother if he would take a
break of 45 minutes to conduct his
murder in Whitechapel, traveling 15
minutes ride from the museum, 15
minutes to conduct the murder and
15 minutes to go back. Even
though it won’t prove that it is Rizal
who’s Jack the Ripper, it will still
claim the possibility of the
incidence.
4. Rizal speaks 22 languages
including French.
According to the investigators, Jack
the Ripper pretends as a customer
the reason why the victims aren’t
all that alarmed. It is also believed
that Jack the Ripper acts alone and
to do it alone would mean that he
has to be able to speak French. The
investigation was narrowed to
French people alone because of the
speculation. Though, wouldn’t it be
possible for Rizal if he is able to
speak French fluently?

the same appearance.
At the inquest of one of the
witnesses, Mrs. Elizabeth Long
testified that she had seen
Chapman (the second victim)
talking to a man at 5:30 AM just
beyond the backyard of 29
Hansburg St. Spitalfields. Mrs. Long
described him as man with the
height of 5 feet and above, with
dark hair and foreign. He has
decent appearance. It is the man
who is believed to be Jack the
Ripper because at 4:30 or earlier,
Chapman was killed. Rizal came
from a wealthy family, he laso
wears decent clothes.
6. Jose Rizal never mentioned
about the killings in his letters
In Rizal’s stay in France, he has sent
many letters home, but none of
these letters mentioned about the
killings. The Jack the Ripper case is
the biggest news at that time,
everyone knows about it. It is just
absurd to not write a single thing
about the murders in any of the
letters sent back home
7.Jose Rizal and Jack the Ripper
were both capable with blades.
It is already mentioned at how Jack
the Ripper is said to be skillful with
a knife since he handle incisions
and cuts on the victims pretty well.
Jose Rizal is not only a doctor but a
swordsman and a fencer. He
fenced with Europeans, Juan Luna,
and other friends.
8.There were preserved human
innards found at the house of Rizal
While up in the attic putting away
boxes of Christmas ornaments, the
present-day owners of #37 Chalcot
Crescent stumble across a dusty
old trunk, which reveals some
items once belonging to Dr. Jose
Rizal. In particular, a diary wherein
he confesses to the Whitechapel
murders; and a glass of jar with half
a human kidney preserved in
alcohol. The stuffs seems genuine,
the ink and the paper are from
1888, the handwriting matches
Rizal’s and a new DNA test from the
preserved kidney and the great-
granddaughter of Eddowes makes
it certain that the kidney was taken
from Catherine Eddowes (the 4th
victim). Though, these speculations
aren’t proved further yet.
9. When Rizal departed from
London, the killing stopped
Rizal stayed at London from June
1888 to December 13. During June
he though of publishing the second
edition of Noli me Tangere and
requested Mariano Ponce to send
copies to Philippines. July 1888, he
was busy from reorganization of
Hispano-Filipino association and
writing a letter to Senator of
Madrid. August, he moved to British
Museum to start copying the said
book, also the start of Jack the
Ripper killings. He departed at
December, a few weeks after the
last victim’s death. When he was
departed, the killings stopped.
10. Jose Rizal and Jack the Ripper
shared the same initials—J.R.
At the Jack the Ripper’s “Dear
Boss” letter to the police wherein
he stated his next victim would look
like, he has named himself Jack the
Ripper. He chooses the name
himself and although clichéd, he
might have followed the initials of
his real name
All the proof above here is “simply”
showing how Jack the Ripper is
linked to our National Hero. There
are only two possibilities on this
theory and it is whether everything
is all just coincidence or not. And
since Jack the Ripper case was
never solved and remained a
mystery for almost 127 years, we
